Organizations Funded by the Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund

Injustice is everywhere, but some groups are affected by it more than others. In these cases the poor, immigrants and women and are the most affected. And, without civil, migrants and human rights groups, oppression on these groups would be more severe. But, thanks to organizations like Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund, which funds organizations that educate, research and educate for the rights of the undeserved.

Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund was established in the year 2007. That year, its founders, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin had received a grand total of $3.75 million that was settlement fund for a case that they had won.

It had happened that in the middle of the night, they were arrested from their homes for having given the home address of Maricopa’s county sheriff, Joe Arpaio. During the arrest the two had been shoved to black, tinted SUVs and jailed in different facilities that were both managed by this county Sheriff.

The case leading to their arrest was having reported the financial mismanagement that was ongoing in the office of the sheriff. On the Phoenix News Times, the two had also reported how his system involved racial profiling and how many were prosecuted and tortured, not to mention the ill health conditions of the prisoners.

Arpaio was displeased by the exposure and retaliated by jailing them. However, Larkin and Lacey were adamant to fight the case and it was then that the judge ruled in their favor. They were released on the basis of illegal arrest and were compensated with $3.7 million; a sum that they decided would go towards starting a civil, migrants and human rights organization. ACLU of Arizona was founded in the year 1959. The organization is known for challenging unconstitutional laws, in Arizona, that specifically target to oppress the minorities. Due to their fine works, they have managed to pin down government official whose systems integrate racial profiling. Center for Neighborhood Leadership

The Center for Neighborhood Leadership, as the name states, is a foundation that aims at educating and supporting young leaders from Phoenix communities that are underrepresented.

This way, they empower these communities to have someone who can support them financially. This foundation is known to formulate projects to offer training and scholarships to university and college students.

The American Immigration Council

The American Immigration Council was formed with the main aim of shaping how the Americans feel about immigrants. They do this be educating Americans on the contributions of immigrants to shaping how the current America is structured and cultured.

They ensure that immigrants laws formulated are in honor of the constitution and the human rights of these immigrants. To do so, their ears are always open to current immigration grievances and abuses. In this way, they are able to formulate relevant solutions.
